“Pappy” Heald, stage carpenter at the Empire Theater has just completed a set of miniature stage settings which are to be installed on the stage of the new Association St. Dominic club house. The settings are but 16 feet high. Next Thursday evening the parlor will be used for the public performance of the Minstrel Four at the Empire.

50 years ago, 1959


Mrs. Hildegarde Baker, 19, of the Kenmore Hotel, Auburn, was arrested last night by Auburn police on a charge of operating a motor vehicle without eye glasses when her license was restricted to glasses. She is scheduled to be arraigned Monday morning in Auburn Municipal Court. Mrs. Baker was stopped at 11:05 last night on Court Street by Patrolman
Maurice Morin. She had not obtained bail at 1 a.m. today.


25 years ago, 1984

Susan Martin of Lewiston was named the new principal at Farwell and Wallace schools in Lewiston Tuesday night by the School Committee.

Farwell School includes 320 students, while Wallace has about 100. Joanne Lebel, who is principal of Farwell and Martel schools, will serve only at Martel in the fall. Robert Provencher, who has been at both Wallace and Pettingill schools, will be only the Pettingill principal.

In other personnel matters, the School Committee hired Robert Card as physical education instructor at Lewiston Junior High School, accepted the retirement of elementary guidance counselor Eugene Dugas, and accepted the resignation of high school art teacher Jean Bragdon.
