JAY – A New Sharon man was uninjured Friday morning after the trailer he was hauling with a van started to fishtail on a bend on Route 133 and went out of control, police said.

Donald Richard, 64, was driving a 2003 Ford van south on the road toward Livermore Falls, towing a 2005 dual-axle trailer owned by the Maine Elks Association, Jay police officer Russell Adams said. Inside the trailer was a John Deere Gator utility vehicle.

Richard couldn’t control the trailer once it started to fishtail, and the trailer ended up flipping on to its side, he said.

It came unattached from the van, except for the safety chains, Adams said, and the van went off the road.

The trailer was a total loss, Adams said, but the van and the utility vehicle were not damaged.
