BAR HARBOR – Brittany Bell capped off a stellar career at Poland High School by winning two gold medals at the Class B track championships Saturday.

The Poland senior repeated as Class B state champion in the 400-meter dash and added another first in the long jump. Bell, who also placed fourth in the 200 and seventh in the triple jump, accounted for 25 of Poland’s 32 points, which placed them seventh out of the 26 schools that scored.

Seeded second going into the 400, Bell outsprinted the field to cross the line in 58.69 seconds, more than half of second ahead of runner-up Danielle Hutchins of host Mt. Desert Island. Bell’s victory in the long jump was even more dramatic. Entering as the No. 4. seed, Bell narrowly defeated Shelby Moore of Waterville, 16-8 to 16-8.

Kendra Lobley scored the remaining points for the Knights with a third in the 800 (2:23.32) and seventh in the 400 (1:03.16).

Tyrus Steinman led the Poland boys by winning the discus with a toss of 139-10. Steinman added a third-place finish in the shot put at 45-3 – two inches shy of second. Teammate Joe Murphy leaped 20-4 to take second in the long jump.

Sprinter Ben Miklovich of Gray-New Gloucester captured the boys’ 200 in 22.62 and anchored the 400 relay team that placed second.

Leavitt’s Allison Fereshetian enjoyed a busy, productive day. She finished second in the 300 (26.23), third in the 100 hurdles (15.24), third in the 300 hurdles (46.73) and fourth in the long jump (16-7) to score all 24 of her school’s points for 10th place. She was nipped at the finish line in the 200 by Hutchins, whose winning time was 26.19.

Lauren Turner led the Leavitt boys with a runner-up effort in the high jump at 5-10.
