From left are Nancy Mahar, Adele Silverman and Barbara Randall, three members of the Read-to-Me Committee of the Delta Kappa Gamma Mu Chapter. Read-to-Me has been a community service project of the chapter for nearly 20 years. The ladies deliver 100 baby books to the birthing centers at Central Maine Medical Center and St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center every other month to be donated to each newborn and their mother, with a pamphlet explaining the importance of reading to babies beginning at birth. Books are also donated to Advocates for Children. Local organizations that have donated to help purchase books and supplies for the project are Lisbon Rotary, Lewiston-Auburn Children Foundation, St. Mary’s Women’s Auxiliary and the Auburn-Lewiston Rotary Breakfast Club.
