AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — The Maine Senate has killed a bill to replace Maine’s two-chamber Legislature with a unicameral system.

Senators on Wednesday stuck by their earlier vote against the bill. That kills it for the session, even though the House had endorsed the plan.

The proposed constitutional amendment would reduce the Legislature to one, 151-member body. The present Legislature has a 151-member House of Representatives and 35-member Senate. The change would have been subject to voter approval.
