LEWISTON – Marcel A. Bonefant, 88, of 368 Crowley Road, Sabattus, passed away in Lewiston on Monday, June 8, with his family by his side.

He was born in Lewiston on April 30, 1921.

He served three years in the Navy during World War II. Following an interest in photography since his youth, he started a photography and camera business, which was the beginning of a lifetime profession in photography.

His involvement in civic affairs included serving as president of the Lewiston Exchange Club, president of the Holy Cross Church Parish Council and a member of the Ste. Croix Credit Union board of directors.

On April 19, 1949, he was married to the former Jeannette Paradis at Saints Peter and Paul Church. Together they raised two sons, Paul and Jerry. In 1985, he and Jeannette retired and moved to Cape Canaveral, Fla. They summered in Maine with their children, grandchildren and families. He and Jeannette moved back to the local area in 2007 to be near their family.

He was happiest when surrounded by family, enjoying time together and taking pictures. He enjoyed the outdoors and frequented Acadia National Park, Portland Headlight, Two Lights State Park and Sebastian Inlet in Florida.

He is survived by his two sons, Paul and his wife, Lisa Bonenfant, of Auburn and Jerry Bonenfant of Sabattus; grandchildren, Aimee (Bonenfant) Maheux and husband, Christopher, of Lewiston, Michelle (Bonenfant) Wheeler and husband, Matthew, of Lisbon Falls, Danielle Bonenfant of Portland, and Bryan Bonenfant of Auburn; and two great-grandchildren Noah and Aidan Maheux of Lewiston.

He was recently predeceased by his faithful and loving wife of 60 years, Jeannette (Paradis) Bonenfant; brothers, Robert Bonenfant and Leopold Bonenfant; and sisters, Jeannette Bonenfant and Sister Celine Bonenfant.
