JAY – Brittany DiPompo and Alannah White had three hits apiece and Alexii Smith struck out 10 batters to lead No. 3 Jay to a 9-4 triumph over No. 6 Mt. Abram in the Western Class C quarterfinals.

The Tigers (14-3) scored all nine runs in the first three innnings to take command. After loading the bases in the first inning on a walk and two singles by DiPompo and Liz LeBlanc, Alexi Blodgett brought home the first run with a sacrifice fly and White followed with a two-run single.

LeBlanc and Betsy Gemelli also had two hits for the Tigers.

Dani Smith had an RBI single for Mt. Abram.

Cape Elizabeth 4, Oak Hill 0

CAPE ELIZABETH – Trisha Thibodeau scattered four hits as No. 2 Cape Elizabeth came away with a 4-0 victory over No. 7 Oak Hill in the Western Class B quarterfinals.

Colleen Martin and Delaney Rockwell belted triples for the Capers (17-1), with Martin driving in a run.

Lauren Hall struck out seven on the hill for Oak Hill (10-8) in a complete-game effort.

Telstar 4, St. Dom’s 1

BETHEL – Candace Hall scattered four hits and received ample run support as Telstar hustled to a 4-1 victory over St. Dom’s in the Western Class C softball quarterfinals Thursday.

Thanks to six strikeouts, six assists and two put-outs, Hall contributed to 14 of 21 outs for Telstar. The Rebels (15-1) scored three unearned runs in the first four frames. Sam Largess belted an RBI double in the fifth inning.

Erynne Landry led the Saints (11-6) with two hits, while Mary Caron smacked a double. Landry drove in the Saints’ lone run in the seventh.

Fryeburg 5, Wells 1

FRYEBURG – Pitcher Hannah Hill struck out 12 batters, walked one, allowed only four hits, and doubled, as No. 3 Fryeburg Academy whipped No. 6 Wells (12-6) with a 5-1 victory in a Western Maine Class B softball quarterfinal Thursday.

The Raiders (16-1) took a 3-0 lead after the third inning and picked up and added two more runs in the fifth.

Fryeburg’s Heather Tripp alos doubled and she went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Teammate Tanya Randall went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

Bangor 3, Edward Little 0

BANGOR – Bangor pitcher Sam Bedore had no problem shutting down Edward Little with 16 strikeouts as the third-ranked Rams (15-2) shuffled off with a 3-0 victory over the No. 6 Red Eddies (12-6) in an Eastern Class A softball quarterfinal Thursday.

Levesque walked two batters and gave up just two hits. The Rams used a seven-hit attack. Bangor took a 2-0 lead after three innings while Bedore keep the Red Eddies quiet.

For Bangor, Mariah Casson, Bedore, and Eliza Estabrook each doubled. Teammate Kate Freudenderser tripled. Bangor’s Erin Dean was the only repeat hitter with two singles.

Lacrosse

Freeport 15, Mountain Valley 3

BATH – The Freeport girls’ lacrosse squad explode for seven goals in the second half Thursday as they ran away from Mountain Valley, 15-3, in a Eastern Class B quarterfinal matchup.

Lucy Whitacre led Freeport with four goals, while Alex Mitch, Emily Drummond and Lauren Easler all added two. Jess Hench, Alida Farrell, Melanie Ross and Mia Thomas also tallied to complete the scoring. Hannah Goodenow made 12 saves for Freeport to notch the win.

Mountain Valley was led by Emily Child with two goals and one assist, while Caitlin O’Connell also scored a goal. Krista Lee and Hollie Theriault combined for five saves between the posts for Mountain Valley.
