Girl Scout camps hosting open houses

SOUTH PORTLAND – Girl Scouts of Maine will host open house events from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, June 14, at their summer resident camps: Kirkwold in Readfield, Pondicherry in Bridgton and Natarswi in Baxter State Park.

Families attending will have the opportunity to register to win a free week at camp for one girl. The camps are open to Girl Scouts and non-Girl Scouts alike.

“We believe every girl should benefit from the summer camp experience and that’s why we’re doing everything we can to enable parents to send their girls to camp,” said Anne Randall, Girl Scouts of Maine director of outdoor programs. “Aside from the chance to win a free week at camp, we offer assistance that is based on a family’s financial need. This year we also have a Bring a Buddy to Camp initiative where a girl who is registered for camp will receive a 30 percent discount if she gets a friend to attend with her.”

Those attending the camp open houses will go on a walking tour of the grounds, meet some of the camp staff and learn about Girl Scout traditional, skills-building camp programs.
