RANGELEY – Despite Buckfield’s four home runs and 13 hits, Rangeley kept its cool and slipped away with a narrow 6-5 victory over the Bucks in a Western Class D baseball semifinal Thursday.

The Lakers (13-2) built at quick 4-1 lead in two innings only to watch the stubborn Bucks bounce back and tie the game with a three-run eruption in the seventh inning.

But Rangeley wasn’t through, yet. In the bottom of the eighth, the Lakers’ Zack Abbott singled and moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Alex Morton. Abbott jumped to third base on a wild pitch and came home with the winning run when he scored on a failed pick-off attempt at third base.

For the Bucks, Kyle Rines, catcher Alan Hedrick, Tony Fortier and Isaac Smith each blasted home runs. For Rangeley, catcher Craig Marshall and winning pitcher Pat Anthony each doubled.

Anthony came in relief in the fourth, left in the seventh and returned in the eighth to pick up the win on the mound for the Lakers.
