LISBON – The School Committee will hold a special meeting 7 p.m. Monday at the town office meeting room to discuss the 2009-10 school budget.

The meeting comes on the heels of the school system’s referendum last week in which voters rejected a $14.33 million budget that had been adopted by the Town Council. Six percent of the registered voters turned out and defeated the proposal, 231 to 190.

The School Committee is expected to begin work on a new budget proposal that will go back to voters at another referendum as required by state law. This process will continue until voters adopt a new budget.

Of those who voted last week and responded to a second question on the ballot regarding why they voted for or against the proposed budget, 233 people responded that the budget was too high and 11 responded that it was too low.
