FARMINGTON – Franklin County is home to a variety of farms and agricultural processors. The facilities grow or create a variety of products, many of them available for local purchase.

To draw attention to this, Franklin County Farm Bureau and the Maine Antique Tractor Club will hold a Maine pie-judging contest and auction on Saturday, June 27, in the Starbird Building on the Farmington Fairgrounds during the antique tractor show.

There will be three categories: apple, fruit and other. Winners will be selected in each category, then a best of the best will be chosen.

Each pie must have as a main ingredient at least one item that is produced in Franklin County or Maine. The recipe must be included and pies should be in nonreturnable pans to facilitate the auction part of the event.

Entries will be accepted between 8 and 10 a.m. The awards presentation will occur after the announcement of the photography contest winners. The auction will take place at about 1:30 p.m.

Proceeds from the auction will be used to support the programs the Franklin County Farm Bureau hosts or sponsors. They include supporting the Ronald McDonald Houses during Food Check-Out Week, assisting with costs for the Children’s Learning Center at Maine Farm Days and developing consumer awareness and/or agricultural education programs for the county.
