Fryeburg Academy Jazz Combo will play Friday
LOVELL — The Fryeburg Academy Jazz Combo, which swept the Maine State Instrumental Festival in South Portland in March, will perform Friday, June 19, at the Brick Church for the Performing Arts.
In fact, the Fryeburg Academy jazz students won the state title for the fourth year in a row. They have taken a host of other awards as well, culminating with this year’s first-place trophy at the prestigious Berklee High School Jazz Festival in Boston.
Next year, these talented musicians will be performing and studying all over the country. Four are graduating seniors. Tyler Arnold (drums) will attend Berklee College of Music. Jared LaCasce (trumpet) will go to New York University. Pianist Dan Rounds will be at Loyola, and Anya Rose (bass) will study at Northeastern University. Alto saxophonist Devin LaCasce, a sophomore, will continue in the academy’s jazz program.
Friday’s concert will give the Jazz Combo the opportunity to perform together one more time. The program will feature jazz from the 1950s to the present day.
The 7:30 p.m. concert is open to the public. Admission is free, though donations will be requested. Refreshments will be served. Brick Church for the Performing Arts is on Christian Hill Road, off Route 5. For more information, go to www.lovellbrickchurch.org or call 925-2792.
