NEW GLOUCESTER – A directory of the town’s artistic and cultural assets is on the Internet, selectmen were advised Monday night.

The two-year Creative New Gloucester Project was formed to inventory those resources, make the information accessible and celebrate its importance to the community, project committee member Deborah Smith. There is a functioning Web directory supported by the town and accessed through the town Web site: www.newgloucester.com and an e-mail address of [email protected].

New Gloucester individuals, organizations and businesses may register online.

At this time, Smith said, members of the committee regularly update the Web site’s calendar and directory.

The board agreed with the committee’s recommendation to disband and form a smaller committee to manage the Web site.

Smith told the board that an independent network, not under the auspices of the town, plans to host potluck gatherings and plan future events.

A budget of $107, the annual Web-hosting fee, is required to maintain the site.

In other business, the board agreed to accept a donation of a 1998 ambulance from United Ambulance of Lewiston/Auburn that will not be used to transport injured people.

The vehicle needs roughly $2,000 in routine maintenance, according to Greeley’s Garage in Auburn. The interior will be retrofitted for storage of equipment and space to get injured people inside as permitted, New Gloucester Fire Chief Gary Sacco said.

New Gloucester relies on first responders who are basic and intermediate EMTs.

United Ambulance transports injured people.

Selectwoman Pamela Slye was told that response time for an ambulance to reach New Gloucester is roughly six to 12 minutes.

Two bad accidents in the past week, one on Gloucester Hill Road and another at Route 100 and the Bennett Road, brought the ambulance before the victims were removed from the vehicles, Sacco said. The fatal accident on Route 100 required additional ambulances, Sacco said.
