God give me strength!!

How many times I have said those words? Sometimes it has been when little things annoy me, other times when I have been faced with decisions I need to make. When I said those four little words a few short days ago, I said them from the very depth of my soul. Once again, Cancer had robbed our family, the third time in eight months.

Brian’s brother Jim passed away from Adrenal Gland Cancer in August, my cousin’s husband Bob, to Brain Cancer on Feb. 15, Brian’s brother Richard, to Lung Cancer in March. We also lost my sister’s husband to a tragic tractor trailer accident Feb. 15.

Then I developed Asthmatic Bronchitis, so, needless to say, I was at the very lowest emotional point I could ever be. Why? Because I know our battle with Cancer is not over. We still have family members who are still fighting!!

As I was driving to work, I said those four little words, God give me strength, and somehow show me a sign that things will get better.

The first week in February, I found some daffodil bulbs in the basement of Davis Florist so I planted them, and put them in the window of the second floor of the shop (office space that is not being used). While I was away with my sister in Ohio, they didn’t get watered and, even though I thought I had lost them, I watered them. On my return, to be quite honest, they looked pretty pathetic.

When I got to work that morning, I went up the stairs to freshen up and out of the corner of my eye I saw a flash of purple. As I entered the room I saw my sign from God, among the tangled spindled leaves were six purple tulips.

Purple is not only my favorite color, it is also the color of Hope. So I will continue to Relay, I will continue to fight back through ACSCAN and together we will win this battle. We have made some amazing strides throughout our years with Relay, better education and detection programs, changes in treatment, and more and more are winning the battle, but we have much, much more work to do. Please join us and help us win.
