PARIS – The Paris Public Library’s environment-themed summer program will kick off the week of June 22.

The Eco-Heroes, for children ages 7 to 9, will share the story, “Beatrice’s Goat,” on Monday, June 22. The activity will be making pot holders from scraps of cloth, with the program starting at 1 p.m.

The Sprouts, for babies to age 7, will share the story, “The Wind’s Garden,” at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 25.

The Green Thumbs, for ages 9 to 13, will learn about the sun from guest speaker Jim Chandler, and will make their own solar cooker at 1 p.m. Friday, June 26.

All programs are free and open to all interested children. Registration is requested for the Green Thumb programs so the library staff may prepare enough materials for the participants.

Children participating in the Paris Public Library’s Summer Reading Challenge may start recording the minutes they spend reading or being read to in their reading logs.

They will receive book bags for reading eight hours, free books for reading 16 hours and $10 gift certificates for reading 32 hours. The top five readers for the summer will receive $25 gift certificates.

Everyone participating will receive a special prize if the total number of hours read during the summer exceeds 1,500. Reading logs are available from the circulation desk or from the children’s librarians.
