FARMINGTON – Natural Angus beef, including filet mignon, is the most recent addition to the Western Maine Market, a new online farmers market serving western Maine.

Locally produced honey, jams, breads, corn flour as well as freshly grown beet greens, kale, radishes and other in-season vegetables are available on the virtual marketplace at www.westernmainemarket.com.

Orders are taken over the weekend, from Friday afternoon to noon Monday. Pick-up is held from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays at the Western Maine Market tent at the Sandy River Farmers Market in the parking lot by the Better Living Center and the Narrow Gauge Cinema, Front Street.

When the online market is not “live” for buying the items appear as sold out. Folks visiting the site during the closed hours can still poke around to learn about the farms involved and the products they typically have available during the open hours.

The online market creates an additional market for farmers and opens up additional selections to the public. A total of 23 farmer/grower/producers are participating in the online market.

Western Maine Market offers convenient access to a number of different local producers, said Tricia Cook, market coordinator. The idea is to use the power of the Internet to connect more consumers with local producers, to create another market for small farmers and to lessen the distance food travels from farm to table

As a special promotion, the first five people who spend $20 or more during the first week of July will receive a free Western Maine Market shopping bag.

The market is made possible by seed monies from Northeast Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education, the Harvest Fund, the work of a volunteer advisory committee, local farmers, buyers and Western Mountains Alliance.

For more information on the market, go to www.westernmainemarket.com or call Western Mountains Alliance at 778-3885.
