Lewiston artist shares views from ‘backyard, abroad’
SCARBOROUGH — Melinda Campbell of Lewiston will exhibit a collection of
her paintings from June 27 to Sept. 26 at Biddeford Savings Bank on
Route 1. Titled “Veduti — Views From My Backyard and Abroad,” the
exhibit features scenes of Italy as well as her backyards in Maine and
Massachusetts.
“Italy is meant to be painted. The light is incredible and the urge to
capture its mountainous landscape is gravitating,” said Campbell, who
recently painted in Italy through a Maine Arts teaching fellowship.
“I love Italy, its people, its food and culture. … I felt totally
immersed in the culture while painting. I want to share my love for
Italy and its beauty with others,” said Campbell, who was recently
inducted into the Italian Heritage Club of Portland.
Campbell considers herself a Romantic Expressionist painter who does
not get distracted by detail. She is a practicing art educator and has
shared her love for art with young children since 1988. Her artwork may
be viewed at www.melindacampbell.net.
A meet-the-artist reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June
30, at the bank. Light refreshments will be served. Admission is free.
