DIXFIELD – Oksana Puhach, exchange student from the Ukraine, was awarded an honorary membership to the Dunham Chapter, National Honor Society, at Dirigo High School, Dixfield, recently.

Honorary membership is granted by a faculty council to an individual who demonstrates one or more of the necessary qualities but is unable to fulfill the duties membership requires.

The council voted to award membership to Puhach, who, in her short time at Dirigo, demonstrated many of the qualities of the NHS. She was a leader in the classroom, maintaining a grade point average above a 94 percent in difficult classes.

Puhach contributed positively to the cheerleading and track teams and earned honors, such as placing in the MVC track meet and receiving classroom awards.

She gave back to her community through volunteering at various activities such as teaching skiing and dance to younger kids, working at the snack shack and participating in the heart walk.
