PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Maine’s personal income grew by 0.2 percent during the first quarter of 2009, making it one of only 13 states that did not show declines during the period.
The figures were released Thursday by the federal Bureau of Economic Analysis and reflect income received by residents from all sources. Nationally, personal income fell 0.5 percent between January and March.
Income fell in the other five New England states. Connecticut was down by 1.2 percent; Massachusetts by 0.6 percent; New Hampshire by 0.5 percent; Rhode Island by 0.6 percent; and Vermont by 0.2 percent.
The Bureau of Economic Analysis says the overall loss was due to lost jobs, lower interest rates and smaller corporate dividend payments.
