RUMFORD – Angie Marion Ivers, 100, of Rumford, formerly of Rangeley and the recipient of the Boston Post Cane of Rangeley since Oct. of 2008, (an honor held also by her grandmother and brother), died early Tuesday morning, June 17, 2009 at the Rumford Community Home. She was born April 20, 1909, in Rangeley, a daughter of Ruel and Vellum (Philbrick) Wilcox. She received her education in Rangeley schools and in June of 1929, married Henry John Ivers. He died in May of 1962.

She was a devoted homemaker who always loved being with her family. Periodically, throughout the years, she also was employed at the Laundromat in Oquossoc. She was a member of the Rangeley Free Baptist Church. She was a hard worker and a classic “adaptor”, always meeting life’s challenges “head-on”. A nature lover, she enjoyed fishing and hunting, berry picking and finding little treasures in the wonderful wilderness of her beloved hometown of Rangeley. She was also an avid card player and enjoyed the aptly named marble game, Aggravation. She was an extravert who enjoyed watching and studying people; her spry attitude and sense of humor were admirable attributes, particularly in her later years.

She is survived by nine daughters: Marion Gallo and her husband, Anthony of CA.; Clara Lockell and Ann Bruen, both of NY; Alice Yuzzi and her husband, Anthony of N. Carolina; Nellie Eilertsen of Tennessee, Janet Mannix and her husband, David of NY; Sandra Marino and her husband, Bill of S. Carolina; Gloria Breton and her husband, David of Rumford and Bonnie Haggan and her husband,Tom of Rangeley; three sons: Barrymore Ivers and his wife, Guyla of CA; Roy Ivers and his wife, Carol of Gray and Peter Ivers and his wife, Debra of Windham; several grand, great-grand; great-great grand and great-great- great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sons: Walter, Bruce and Brent and eight siblings.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Wiles Remembrance Center, 137 Farmington Falls Rd., (Rtes. 2 & 27) Farmington, Monday June 22 from 4-7 PM. Visitation will also be held Tuesday morning June 23 from 10-11 AM, one hour prior to the funeral at 11 AM, from the Rangeley Free Baptist Church. Pastor Scott Wilson will be officiating. Burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Rangeley. Following services, a reception will be held in the church vestry.
