BAR HARBOR (AP) – Actor and activist Richard Dreyfuss will
be the keynote speaker Friday at the Maine State Bar Association’s summer
meeting in Bar Harbor.
The Academy Award-winning star of “Jaws,” “The
Goodbye Girl” and “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” will speak about the need
for civic engagement.
Dreyfuss says he now devotes himself full-time to a
“nonprofit initiative to revive a curriculum of civics for all of the grades
kindergarten through 12.”
Hundreds of lawyers are expected to attend next
weekend’s meeting, which includes seminars, presentations and dancing to the
music of the RetroRockerz, a garage band whose members include Supreme Court
Justice Andrew Mead.
