Vera Doris Conley
1927 – 2009
AUBURN — Vera Doris Carter Conley, 81, of Auburn, formerly of Lewiston, died Monday, June 29, at the Odd Fellows Home.
She was born in Brunswick, on Dec. 22, 1927, a daughter of Fred and Muriel Small, and attended Brunswick schools.
For most of her life, she worked in area shoe shops as a stitcher.
She was a member of the Red Hat Society, and a former member of the Pythian Sisters. She enjoyed playing bingo and cards, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are four sons, Harry Gage, Ray Carter and his wife, Katie, of Brunswick, Maynard Carter and his wife, Diane, of Poland, and Tommy Carter and his significant other, Christine Richards of Sabattus; three daughters, Patricia Chickering and her husband, Herbert, of Poland, Glenna Chickering and her husband, Andrew, of Auburn and Muriel Chabot and her husband, Bob, of Lewiston; 37 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Clarence Raymond Carter Sr.; a son, George Gage; a daughter, Lillian Newton; and three grandchildren.
