The Information Center is just hopping with visitors from all over!

Recently, Linda French (a volunteer) sat down and took a look at our guest book. We have had visitors from 34 different states and 9 countries come through the center in the month of June alone! If that’s not impressive, I don’t know what is!

I hear a lot of the conversations that take place between our visitors and the volunteers. It’s so exciting to hear that they want to see moose, the mountains, the falls, they want some peace and quiet and are headed to one of our many lakes or ponds for some relaxation.

Just today, we had a father and his children in here, they were participating in an EarthCache. Have you heard of this?
An EarthCache site is a special place that people can visit to learn about a unique geoscience feature or aspect of our Earth. Visitors to EarthCache sites can see how our planet has been shaped by geological processes, how we manage the resources and how scientists gather evidence to learn about the Earth. *Provided by: www.earthcache.org
This family had a clue to our Falls right here in Rumford. They had to learn more about the geography of the Falls, what they were used for through the ages and what the impact is on the area. Thanks to the Rumford Historical Society, we were able to give them plenty of answers with the “Pictorial History of Rumford-Mexico.”

There are dozens of resources in this building and it’s all thanks to the local cultural societies, clubs, businesses and of course the Maine Center of Tourism. It’s up to the volunteers to convey their knowledge and give our visitors the warm feeling of being apart of someplace great. This is our River Valley, be proud, thank our visitors for choosing us and invite them back again. We won’t regret it.

Each of our volunteers spends a 4 hour shift meeting, greeting and helping people from all over the world. Please stop in and see them in action~ they are what makes the Information Center the great place that it is!

If you’re interested in volunteering, please call Cherri @ The Chamber office today- 364.3241 or stop in for a visit @ 10 Bridge Street in Rumford~ “The Gem at the Foot of the Falls.”
