RUMFORD — Selectmen are expected to pare the pool of 12 applicants for the fire chief position down to four to six applicants starting Monday, July 20, before beginning the interview process, according to Town Manager Carlo Puiia.
The deadline to apply for the job, currently being filled by Mexico fire Chief Gary Wentzell, was July 10.
“I’ve asked the selectmen to choose either a minimum of four or a maximum of six of whom to have possible interviews with,” Puiia said on Wednesday afternoon.
Puiia did not release the names of the dozen applicants.
“Gary will stay on until we hire a chief,” he said.
