A movement has been started, principally among the owners of cottages on the shores of Sabattus pond, to form a fish and game protective association. It has been reported that men come here for a day’s fishing and keep every fish taken, whether large or small, and when they have fished enough will throw back the smallest catches into the water, dead. It is to prevent this and to see that the supply will not run out that the association is to be formed.

One of the most comfortable spots in Lewiston last night was the city park but only the usual sized crowd was on hand to enjoy some cooling breezes and fine music by the Montagnard Band.
The humid weather, which left citizens in a sweat both before and after yesterday’s rain, was barely felt last night at the park as gentle breezes blew about the trees, cooling off young and old alike. The comfortable people were there.

Windham Police Chief Gregory C. Hanscom will take over as Lewiston’s new chief of police, City Administrator Lucien B. Gosselin announced Wednesday afternoon, ending weeks of speculation over who would get the job.
Selected as the top candidate from 32 who applied, Hanscon, 36, will replace retiring chief Herve Gendreau Aug. 27.
