LEWISTON — Police arrested a man and charged him in connection with last month’s robbery at a Big Apple store.
William Wing, 30, of 99 Warren Road, Monmouth, was charged Saturday with Class B robbery, punishable by up to 10 years in prison. He was booked at Androscoggin County Jail. Bail was set at $10,000 unsecured with the condition not to return to the store at 1892 Lisbon St.
A clerk told police a man grabbed $40 from his hand while he was working at Big Apple store on outer Lisbon Street at about 11:30 p.m. on June 29. The man also stole a 6-pack of Mike’s Hard Lemonade and a 2-liter bottle of Absolut vodka, police said.
Police said media display of the man’s surveillance photograph prompted public calls to police with information that helped two police detectives working on the case to identify the man and led to Wing’s arrest.
The man in the black-and-white photograph was wearing a ball cap with FBI lettering on it.
Police interviewed the clerk and two customers in the store at the time of the robbery. The man appeared to be unarmed.
No injuries were reported.
