MATINICUS, Maine (AP) – Police say a lobsterman has been shot in the neck on Matinicus island and was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to a hospital on the mainland.

State police say initial reports indicate a 38-year-old man was shot Monday morning on a dock on the island, a fishing community 20 miles off the coast from Rockland. Public Safety Department spokesman Steve McCausland says the victim’s name hasn’t been confirmed.

State police and Knox County detectives were en route to the island to investigate.
The victim was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. The extent of his injuries was not immediately known.
