LIVERMORE FALLS — School Superintendent Judith Harvey started her third week on the job Monday and has set clear goals for herself to oversee education in the schools in Livermore and Livermore Falls.

Her plan, listed on the district’s Web site, http://www.sad36.org, is a message to administrators, faculty, staff and the community.

The plan will guide her in her first months as superintendent and includes becoming familiar with each member of the 13-member school board, school administrators, SAD 36 Education Association members among other district employees, and the community. She also wants to determine the key issues that are facing the school system and each group.

Harvey, of Hallowell, has been in education for 22 years. She is fresh off the Thomaston area school district’s roster where she served as superintendent of SAD 50 for seven years. Harvey has a bachelor’s in education from George Washington University, a master’s in exceptionality, with a concentration on gifted and talented, and a certificate of advanced study in leadership, all from the University of Southern Maine.

Harvey’s education career includes being a gifted and talented teacher, an adjunct professor teaching graduate courses for teachers at USM, learning results coordinator for Augusta schools and principal at Hodgkins Middle School in Augusta.

She has also previously owned her own clothing business and was a state director of public affairs information in California, and assistant product manager at Key Bank in Augusta.

Harvey, the mother of four and grandmother of five, is settling in at her new office at the Cedar Street Learning Complex in Livermore Falls.

While she’s learning about the schools and community, she’ll continue to keep her focus on student achievement, which she believes is the biggest issue facing schools around the country.

Harvey has already been meeting with school leaders to discuss what needs to be done to enhance students’ achievement.
“So that’s where I want to keep my eyes focused, is doing the best we can for students,” she said.

She plans to make sure every management decision made is in their best interests, she said.
