PARIS — A 33-year-old registered sex offender was arrested Sunday on charges that he sexually assaulted a woman.
Michael Carl Hatch, of Sunrise Drive in Paris, was charged with gross sexual assault, unlawful sexual touching, assault and violation of bail conditions. He also had a warrant out of Lewiston District Court for unpaid fines for operating under the influence and violation of bail conditions. Hatch remained at the Oxford County Jail on Monday afternoon.
Lt. Michael Dailey, of the Paris Police Department, said Hatch was accused of assaulting an adult female known to him. Dailey said he believes there was a verbal altercation that led to a physical, and then sexual, assault.
Dailey said Hatch was out on bail on charges of burglary, aggravated criminal mischief, and violation of conditions of release from Cumberland County. He was also arrested in May by the Paris Police Department on a charge of failure to comply with the sex offender registry.
According to the registry, Hatch was convicted of attempted gross sexual assault and unlawful sexual contact in the Waldo County Superior Court in 1998. He was ordered to serve three years in prison.
