We come up to Andover from Connecticut each summer and look forward to reconnecting with the Sun Journal as we renew our subscription for the summer. We are always impressed with the editorial content of your paper, both local and regional and national and international, and it is a fixture around our breakfast table each morning.
I am writing especially to commend you on your coverage of the Lewiston mill fire. Your articles and photography (including the “time lapse” of the collapse of a wall of the mill) were remarkable in their thoroughness of coverage of this very sad event — coverage both as it happened and in follow-up stories on the courage and organization of emergency services, including fire and police, as they handled so effectively what could have been a disaster for many more structures downtown, and stories featuring reminiscences on work at the mill by elderly retired employees.
Likewise, your articles and editorial comment on the firings of town managers in Lewiston and Paris earlier this month have been filled with helpful details to understand the situation better and with insightful editorials that pulled no punches in commenting on what had occurred.
So again let me commend you on your outstanding journalism and repeat how much we appreciate having your reporting as another great part of our summers in Maine!
