JAY — A local man who tried to outrun police on foot after he was seen driving a vehicle that was reported stolen was arrested Thursday, police Chief Larry White Sr. said.

After police caught up with Andre N. Roy, 27, he was found with a small amount of morphine and a hypodermic syringe and needle, White said.

Roy was arrested on misdemeanor charges of failure to submit to arrest, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, operating a vehicle after right to do so had been suspended and unlawful possession of an illegal drug.
He is scheduled to appear in a Farmington court on Sept. 24.

Police received a report at 11:03 a.m. of a vehicle stolen from an Allen Street home, off Route 4 at the base of Jay Hill. Cpl. Jeffrey Fournier later saw the stolen vehicle traveling onto Allen Street, the same street that the vehicle had been taken from, at 12:20 p.m., White said.

The vehicle pulled into a driveway and the driver ran into a home. Fournier called for assistance and chased after the man, White said.

Roy attempted to close the door to the residence as Fournier approached the door, but the officer was able to force the door open, White said. Fournier continued pursuit as the man ran up a stairway in the home. On the second floor, Fournier was able to take Roy into custody, White said.

The home Roy fled into belongs to a relative who is also the owner of the stolen vehicle, White said.
