ASTON, Pa. (AP) — Jose Canseco has withdrawn from his celebrity boxing match against a former chicken wing eating champion, citing his father’s illness as the reason
Canseco was scheduled to box Bill “El Wingador” Simmons on Friday night at an ice skating rink in suburban Philadelphia. The exhibition features only three, 1-minute rounds.
Canseco will be replaced by former WWE tag team champion Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake.
Promoter Damon Feldman says he’s disappointed, but understands Canseco needs to be with his ailing father.
Canseco has not won a celebrity boxing bout. He lost last year to former Philadelphia Eagle Vai Sikahema, and finished with a majority draw against one-time child star Danny Bonaduce of “The Partridge Family” in January.
