WESTBROOK (AP) – A Westbrook, Maine, woman’s attempt to swim the English Channel must wait until 2011.

Fifty-eight-year-old Pat Gallant-Charette had hoped to do the challenging swim from England to France. But she was unable to because of bad weather conditions.
Her son, Tom Charette, said the winds were blowing at about 15 mph.

Swimmer’s attempts are regulated by the English Channel Association.

Last year, Gallant-Charette was within two miles of crossing the channel but quit when. That swim was called off because of a riptide that kept her in place for four hours.

Gallant-Charette’s son said she has already made plans to try again in 2011.
