AUBURN – Team Argo captured its 10th win and remained in sole possession of first place in the Auburn Men’s Player’s Softball League, pounding out a season-high 24 hits in a 25-4 rout of Main-Land Development.
Scott Tiner and Toby Tiner Jr. combined for eight hits, including four doubles. Ray Schofield, Ben Lachance, Mike Dyer and Bill Sutherland added three hits apiece. Del Cooper was the winning hurler. He also added three hits.
Argo hopes to capture the West Division regular-season title with a win Thursday against the Outlaws at Pettengill Park. Game time is 6:15 p.m. A win also would make Argo the No. 1 seed heading into the playoffs.

Meineke 11, Tail Gators 3
AUBURN – Brad O’ Connor and Bob Sawyer were repeat hitters for Meineke in the Auburn Players League victory. John Langelier prevailed on the mound.

NAPA third in State Class E tourney
BRUNSWICK – NAPA Auto Parts, from the Auburn Rec Players League, competed in the State of Maine Class E Southern Invitational Slow Pitch Tournament held in Bath/Brunswick Aug. 1 and 2. NAPA finished the tournament with a record of 4-2, placing third overall against strong competitio

Kevin Pontbriand led the way with a .412 batting average and seven runs scored on seven hits, including two doubles and a triple. He also had two walks and two sacrifice flies. Jared Kuvaja chipped in with a batting average of .467, with six runs scored on seven hits, including two doubles. Kasey Clark batted .438 on seven hits with five RBIs. Nick Tatu, Demetrius Starks and Eric Davis all batted in the high .300s to help in NAPA’s sparkling performance. NAPA’s defense and pitching held opponents to 5.5 runs per game.
