SUMNER — An article asking the town to raise or appropriate up to $11,000 to survey and clear land on Mollyockett Mountain off Redding Road for a tower to measure wind power will be on the annual town meeting warrant.

The article is the result of a citizen petition. It’s the same one rejected by voters, 25-29, in June.

An informational meeting on wind power will be held at the Hartford-Sumner Elementary School at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, after a potluck supper at 5:30. The annual town meeting will begin at 7.

Voters will be looking at an estimated budget of $1.3 million, including education, that is anticipated to be 2 percent below last year’s total budget, Town Clerk Susan Runes said.

The Road Committee will give a presentation on the article that addresses capital improvements to roads for the coming year.

Voters will elect one selectman for three years. Incumbent Glenn Hinckley is being challenged by Sally Philips.

Jim Keach, who has been road commissioner since 1998, is being challenged by Paul Niemi for a one-year term.
