LEWISTON — A man county jail officials in Portland released prematurely Wednesday night turned himself in Thursday afternoon to jail officials in Auburn where he was wanted on a robbery charge.

Andrew Bruce Williams, 40, of Bangor was released by Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office on personal recognizance at 7 p.m. on charges of refusal to submit to arrest or detention and obstruction of government administration. A supervisor at the jail processed the bail paperwork and let Williams leave the jail, a press release said.

Shortly after releasing him, staff at the jail learned of a “hold for Androscoggin County” order on Williams in connection with robbery and theft charges. His bail in Auburn was set at $10,000 cash.

Cumberland County deputies searched the immediate area for Williams Wednesday but couldn’t locate him, according to the press release. Before living in Bangor, Williams had lived in Lisbon, the release said.

His court date in Androscoggin County Superior Court in Auburn is scheduled for September.
