JAY — A local 17-year-old boy is under house arrest, accused of stealing an all-terrain vehicle from a home at BJ’s Trailer Park off Intervale Road between Monday night and Tuesday morning, police Detective Richard Caton said Wednesday.

The 2003 Polaris ATV was found Tuesday hidden in a ditch off the railroad tracks behind Jay Plaza, Caton said. He arrested the teenager Wednesday on a charge of theft. The ATV is worth between $2,000 and $3,000, which elevated the crime to a felony.

The teenager was released to his parents and is under house arrest until an appearance in Farmington court Oct. 7, Caton said. The boy can leave the house only with his parents or under the supervision of an adult his parents approve of, the detective said.

The ATV owner was able to drive the machine home, but the shift lever was damaged, Caton said.
