RUMFORD — Rumford Group Homes Inc. has announced the 2009 Joyce B. Roy Scholarship recipient from Dirigo High School is Michael J. Dunn.

The scholarship was created in the name of Joyce B. Roy, who was one of the founding board members of Rumford Group Homes. Mrs. Roy was dedicated to the mission of serving children and families to improve their futures. The scholarship is awarded annually to graduating seniors from Mountain Valley High School and Dirigo High School who will be furthering their education in social services, psychology, behavioral health or a related field.

While attending Dirigo High School, Dunn was involved in the speech and debate team. He also completed advanced placement classes, earning college credits affording him sophomore status when he attends Thomas College in the fall. Dunn will pursue a criminal justice administration degree while there.

His long-term plans are to continue his education in the Boston area to achieve his juris doctorate degree and practice law.
Dunn is the son of Tim and Heather Shorey of Dixfield.
