AUBURN — A Greene woman apparently hit by a speeding car when she went to check a relative’s mailbox in Turner two weeks ago died accidentally from multiple blunt force trauma, a spokeswoman at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said.

The driver of the car has an extensive record of driving offenses, a search by the Sun Journal showed.

Since 2006, Brandon Earl Pelletier, 19, of Turner has been convicted three times for speeding, once in 2006 and twice in 2007. He was twice convicted for failing to stop at a stop sign, once in 2006 and once in 2008. He was convicted of illegal transportation of liquor in 2008 and of operating an unregistered motor vehicle in 2007.

He also was convicted of operating after suspension, once in 2007 and once in 2008. He has been convicted of failing to display an inspection sticker, failing to produce evidence of insurance and littering.

Pelletier’s license has been suspended seven times since it was issued in December 2006. It was last restored on April 17, 2009.

He was involved in another accident in Turner in July 2007. He was driving a Honda motorcycle south on Upper Street and, according to the accident report, lost control and crossed over and through the northbound lane. The motorcycle rolled over and came to rest in a field. Pelletier sustained minor injuries in the crash.

A report detailing the July 24 accident in Turner showed Sharon B. Call, 65, was walking toward a mailbox in a relative’s driveway at about 9:45 a.m. on the rainy Friday when she was struck by a car driven by Pelletier, according to the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department. The force of the collision threw her into tall grass where her body was found about an hour later by relatives.

Pelletier lost control of the 1995 Chevrolet Camaro. It skidded on wet pavement about 100 yards across the driveway and a lawn before going down an embankment and into a grassy field.

The sheriff’s department report said illegal or unsafe speed was a primary contributing factor in the accident. The report cited a defective tire or tire failure as a secondary factor.

Maine State Police are reconstructing the accident, officials said. Damage to the car driven by Pelletier and owned by Jane Pelletier of Turner was estimated at $6,000. It was towed to the Maine Crime Lab in Augusta where it is being checked for mechanical defects and signs of contact with a pedestrian, officials said.

No charges have been filed in connection with the accident.
