Carmen G. Dostie

1909 – 2009

LEWISTON — Carmen G. Dostie, 100, of Auburn, died Saturday, Aug. 8, at d’Youville Pavilion.

She was born in Auburn on Feb. 7, 1909, the daughter of Louis and Alvine (Ouellette) Foisy. She received her education in Auburn schools. At the age of 15, she worked in a shirt factory, at 16 she worked at Lunn & Sweet shoe factory for 17 years and in the 1960s, worked for a dress shop for 15 years

On Sept. 1, 1930, she married Adelbert (Albert) Dostie. Carmen stayed home to tend to her six children, made all of their clothes and enjoyed gardening and canning to feed the whole family.

Upon her retirement, she took care of numerous children.

She was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by three sons, Richard G. Dostie and Jerome A., both of Auburn, and Francis Dostie and his wife, Edie, of Minot; two daughters, Claudette I. Morency and her husband, Robert, of Lisbon Center, and Claire (Cookie) T. Caron and her husband, Maurice (Moe), of Scarborough; a sister, Ethel Labbe of Norway; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.

She was predeased by her husband, Albert; one son, Robert L.; four brothers, Lucien, Ludovic, Fernand and Laureat; two sisters, Jeannette and Theresa; and a grandchild, Debra.
