NEW YORK (AP) — The Boston Red Sox have placed shortstop Jed Lowrie on the 15-day disabled list with an irritated left forearm and selected right-hander Enrique Gonzalez’s contract from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Red Sox manager Terry Francona said on Saturday that Lowrie will fly to Arizona to have his arm examined. Francona says the team doesn’t think it’s serious, but decided to get it checked out while Lowrie is on the DL.

Gonzalez was scheduled to start for Pawtucket on Saturday, but instead will give the Red Sox some length in the bullpen after Friday night’s 2-0 loss to the New York Yankees in 15 innings.

Also, All-Star left fielder Jason Bay felt good after testing his injured right hamstring with some running before Saturday’s game against New York.
