John O. ‘Jack’ Bell
1928 – 2009
FARMINGTON – John O. “Jack” Bell, 80, of Farmington, died unexpectedly, on Saturday, Aug. 8, at his home in Farmington.
He was born on, Nov. 23, 1928, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of Edward F. and Vera J. (Hutchins) Bell. He attended Brooklyn, N.Y., and Farmington schools graduating from Farmington High School.
On Feb. 12, 1948, he married Marcelle Tardy at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Farmington. They made their home in Farmington while Jack worked as a young man at Forster Manufacturing and later for Hannaford Oil Co. During his time at Hannaford he obtained his Master Plumber’s License and started his own plumbing business, Jack Bell Plumbing, in 1981.
He was hired onto the Farmington Fire Dept., Mar. 1, 1960, and was very active throughout his 49 years of service. He was currently a Captain within the department.
Not one to sit idle, Jack enjoyed keeping busy, beyond his plumbing business, by doing renovations around his home as well as his families’.
He is survived by his children, Bonnie Lander and her husband, Wintworth, of Farmington, John Bell and his wife, Jan, of Farmington, Michael Bell and his wife, Diana, of Farmington, Terry Bell and his wife, Denise, of Farmington and Ronald Bell of Strong; two sisters, Janet Nies and her husband, Walter, of Vero Beach, Fla., and Carol Ranger and her husband, John, of Standish; grandchildren, Donna Stevens Trask of Jefferson, Christopher Stevens of Rockland, Marlene Hutchins of Farmington, John Bell of Farmington, Elise Bell of Rockland, Hope Bell of Farmington, Faith Fletcher of New Vineyard, Joshua Bell of Farmington, Michelle Fish of Plymouth, Mass., Danielle Bell of Farmington, Sara Bell of Warren, Jamie Ellis of Rangeley, Wendy Kipp of Waterbury, Vt., T.J. Bell of Portland, Crystal Alexander of Rackliffe, Ky., and Cpl. Scott Bell, currently serving in Baghdad, Iraq; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Marcelle, on, Sept. 3, 1984; an infant son, Bruce Bell, on Apr. 13, 1953; granddaughter, Maureen Bell, on May 24, 1994; daughter, Donna Ellis, on June 8, 2003.
