JAY — The Frank L. Mitchell Post 3335, VFW, will hold a pig roast at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, to help raise money for a new roof on the post. A membership drive will be held in conjunction with the roast. Anyone wishing to sign up for membership must bring their DD214.

The membership drive will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, followed by the pig roast. Tickets are available in advance by calling the post at 897-5112.

The post is continuing its upgrade, with nine of the 20 windows installed. The windows were purchased by individuals and donated to the post in memory of a loved one who has died.

“The plaques are in, but still need to be installed,” said Post Commander John Judd.

Judd said the kitchen was also recently upgraded with a stainless steel serving table.

“People are stepping up to help the post and we appreciate them very much,” he said. “We still need volunteers and donations for the pig roast, and we need help with cleaning an hour a day.”

The post will continue with its Thursday night barbecues and Friday night suppers.

Meetings are held at 7 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month at the post. Anyone wishing to help or with questions should call Judd at the post.
