Joan C. Howe

1933-2009

LEWISTON – Joan C. Howe, 75, of Hanover, died Saturday,
Aug. 15, at the Central Maine Medical Center, Lewiston,
with her family by her side.

She was born in Montreal , Quebec, Canada, on Oct. 4, 1933, and
was the daughter of Charles and Doris (Quigley) Cornell. She attended
Catholic schools in Montreal until her senior year. Joan’s parents
relocated to Bethel, where Joan graduated from Gould Academy in
1951, and where Joan met her future husband.

Joan was a Communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior, St.
Athanasius – St. John Church, Rumford. Joan loved the outdoors
and animals and was very active in Girl Scouts for over 30 years,
starting out as a leader becoming a trainer.

She was married in Norway, on Nov. 25, 1954, to Gordon Paul
“Gordie” Howe who survives of Hanover; other survivors include her
daughter, Elaine Howe and companion, Rosemary, of Randolph, Vt; sons,
Christopher P. Howe of Hanover, Mathew Howe and wife, Paula, of
Dixfield, Kevin P. Howe and wife, Tara, of Alabama and Ryan P. Howe
of Alabama.; brothers, Rick Cornell and wife, Lolita, of Shirley, Mass., and
twins, Keith Cornell of South Paris and Kenneth Cornell and wife,
Patricia, of Oxford; a sister-in-law, Tracey Howe of Alabama; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandson.

She was predeceased by her parents;
and a son, Andrew P. Howe.

Joan was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and will be truly missed.
