Solo sailor Bill Dunlop of Mechanic Falls is more than a week overdue in Australia in his attempt to sail around the world in a 9-foot boat, his wife said Friday.

In a telephone interview from Brisbane, Pam Dunlop told the Evening Express that her husband hasn’t been heard from since he left the Cook Islands in the South Pacific eight weeks ago. She expressed concern about his safety.

Dunlop, who made a solo voyage across the Atlantic in 1982, left Portland nearly 13 months ago in an attempt to circumnavigate the globe in the sailboat Wind’s Will.
