SUMNER — The Congregational Church of East Sumner will hold Vacation Bible School for children ages 4 and up from 9 to 11:45 a.m. Monday through Friday, July 27 to 31. The theme is “The 7-League Mission Boots” that will take the children around the world on mission projects.
Each morning the travelers will go through customs and have their passports stamped before heading off into a region of the world that has been struck by disaster and needs their help. They will be entertained with skits, create crafts, eat and play, sing songs and find and read Bible verses.
The week will begin with a community showing of “Chariots of Fire” on Sunday evening, July 26, and end with a program on the evening of July 31. Collections during the week will go to the Heifer Project International to benefit families in Maine. The children will choose their goal, cows, rabbits, chickens, honey bees or ducks.
For more information, call Bill at 388-2263 or Cyndy at 388-2667.
The church will have a community picnic, barbecue and games from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, rain or shine. There will be horseshoes, face painting, balloon toss, egg races and a 50/50 raffle. The church cookbook, “Pleasures from the Good Earth,” will be available for sale.
The menu will consist of chicken, beef and veggie burgers, hot dogs, beans, chili, salads, watermelon and cold drinks. Tents will be set up for eating; take-out will be available. Food will be served from 4 to 6 p.m. Cost will be $10 individual or $25 family. For more information, call Joe or Paula at 388-2089.
