LEWISTON — Tonight’s appearance by the Cajun band Les Frères Michot at the Lewiston Public Library is an appetizer of sorts for the American Folk Festival taking place in Bangor on Aug. 28-30.

“The lead musicians for one of the American Folk Fest’s headlining acts, the hot young Cajun group The Lost Bayou Ramblers, happen to be the sons of Les Frères Michot accordionist Tommy Michot, so we are looking at our event as a great way to get local folks introduced to and primed for the Bangor festival,” said LPL cultural coordinator Cindy Larock.

Discussions are currently under way for the library to be an official preview stop for American Folk Festival artists in future years, she added.

Copies of the full program guide for the 2009 American Folk Festival will be available free of charge at the LPL event.

Tonight’s concert and dance will begin at 7 p.m. in the library’s air-conditioned Callahan Hall. Seating will begin at 6:15 p.m. Tickets are $5. For more information, call 513-3050.
