RANGELEY — The newly formed Rangeley Community Chorus will give its first public performance at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, at the Church of the Good Shepherd. The chorus includes both year-round and seasonal residents of the Rangeley area, plus members from Carrabassett Valley, Strong and Eustis.

Chorus members have been meeting since early June to prepare selections.

“It is evident that many in the group have prior singing experience and we have some strong leaders in each section,” said director Sue Downes-Borko. She selected pieces to be as diverse as possible while still fitting the theme, “Songs of Mountain, River and Forest.”

Included in the concert will be a song recorded by Harry Belafonte titled “Turn the World Around,” “Oye la Musica,” “In Stiller Nacht by Brahms” (sung in German), “Colors of the Wind” from the movie “Pocahontas,” a spiritual titled “Follow the River,” and Marvin Gaye’s 1967 hit song “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.”

Tickets, $7, may be purchased at the Rangeley Lakes Chamber of Commerce, 864-5346; or at the door.
