LEWISTON — A teen boy was listed in fair condition Tuesday at Maine Medical Center in Portland after being hit by a car Monday night on Lincoln Street during a brief rainstorm. The accident also led to the arrest of the car’s driver.
Tyler Moody, 13, of Lewiston was flown Monday to Portland from Central Maine Medical Center, where he was initially treated after the 4:42 p.m. accident in front of 253 Lincoln St
“He was hit by the car, struck the windshield and then rolled off the car,” said Lewiston police Sgt. Brian O’Malley, adding that the boy suffered injuries to his arm.
O’Malley said Moody ran out from in
front of a parked van directly into the path of a car driven
by Roger St. Peter, 29, of 50 Fairmount St., Lewiston. St. Peter was later arrested and charged with operating after suspension and issued a citation for his car not being properly inspected.
“The kid just came out of nowhere — literally out of nowhere,” said Cindi Wertwort, 22, who was at a friend’s house at 261 Lincoln St. when the accident occurred. “He was pretty banged up. He got hit by the car, bounced off and then just rolled.”
Wertwort said she was standing across the street when the Monday accident happened. She said she just turned around to walk back into the house when she heard tires screech and people yell. She turned around to see the boy being hit.
“I just looked away for a second,” said Lisa Greeley, of 265 Lincoln, who was sitting on her front porch when the accident happened. “The next thing I know, everyone was screaming and running over to the car, and I could see this little boy on the ground.”
