Chester ‘Bing’ Wellington Harvey
1933 – 2009
LEWISTON — Chester “Bing” Wellington Harvey, 76, of 92 No Name Pond Road, Lewiston, died Saturday, Aug. 22, at Central Maine Medical Center.
He was born in Lewiston, April 6, 1933, the son of Wellington E. and Amanda Beauchesne Harvey. Educated locally, he was a graduate of Lewiston High School, and was employed for many years by Enterprise Foundry in Lewiston. He was also the co-owner of Cancellation Shoe of Auburn and later Lewiston.
On Aug. 23, 1952, he married the former Rita E. Mathieu. A member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, he was also an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, enjoyed making painted “life-sized” wooden cutouts of cartoon characters, and loved gardening, maintaining 10 acres of flowers and vegetables. He also had a wonderful singing voice, earning the nickname “Bing” in his younger years due to his voice’s similarity to Bing Crosby.
Survivors include his loving wife of Lewiston; a son, Bruce Wellington Harvey of Lewiston; a daughter, Cathy and husband, John Johansen, of Lewiston; a sister, Norine H. Parent of Lewiston; seven grandchildren, Christine H. Worchester, Patrick W. Harvey, Tracy Johansen, Jessica Harvey, Shannon and husband, Bellamy Beaulieu, Michelle Remillard, and Joshua Edwin Wellington Johansen; and several great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Walter Wellington Harvey; and a daughter-in-law, Deborah Harvey.
